ALMA DATA REDUCTION TRAINING

22-24 January 2020

Led by : Ana LOPEZ-SEPULCRE, Mathilde BOUVIER

Place : IRAM, Grenoble, France

Capacity : 5 students

Duration : 3 days

Estimated time schedule : 9 AM - 5 PM (including 1h lunch break) every day

Program :

The students will work on the following topics, using a data set from ALMA cycle 4:

In CASA:

- Data calibration (brief): weblog inspection (based on Ana’s tutorial)

- Extract a single spectral window, and possibly resample it

- Export visibility data (.MS) to GILDAS (.uvt)

- Time permitting only: continuum imaging with TCLEAN

In GILDAS:

- Continuum imaging: support, natural versus uniform weighting

- Continuum subtraction on data cubes

- Line cleaning: support

Since time is short, the students should be familiar with the basic concepts of interferometric data calibration: bandpass, flux, phase calibration.
